You are a professional staff member working in your state government. You will be making a policy recommendation to your governor on an emerging policy issue. Each week, you will be adding content to your policy recommendation. Your project should include the following:

Research the policy issue

Gather arguments that support the policy decision and oppose the policy decision

Build a case for policy change. Assignment Outline completed by one of your classmates, as well as a substantial response to at least 1 other student.

Primary Task Response: Your first task is to post your own Key Assignment Outline to the discussion area so that other students are able to review your plan. Attach your document to the main discussion post, and include any notes you feel are appropriate. The purpose of this assignment is to help improve the quality of the Key Assignment Draft you will complete next week.

Law

The student will research the hiring requirements for the position of police officer in the state that they reside. The research will also show specifically those actions/activities or deficiencies that will automatically disqualify an applicant from further consideration. The student will also inquire into the police department in the town/city in which they live as to whether there are any additional requirements or disqualifiers concerning police officer applicants.

The paper shall be in APA format, typed in 12 font Times New Roman, and shall not have been turned in previously to any other instructor for any other course or assignment.  Paper length is 2-3 pages not to include the cover page or bibliography, and include a minimum of three (3) references.  It is to be submitted as a Microsoft Word Document. The research paper shall be an individual effort and not a group project.  Since criminal justice is a social science, the writing requirements of the American Psychological Association, otherwise known as the APA, will be in effect for the research paper assignment.
