Internationalization in higher education

Internationalization of higher education can be referred as a process of integrating learning, research and services offered in higher education. It, therefore, includes changing or amending policies together with practices that revolve around the academic systems and intuitions as well as the individuals themselves in the aim of being in line with the global academic environment. The motivating factors for internationalization include better knowledge and language acquisition, integrating the curriculum with the international context among other factors. I, therefore, support the motion on internationalization of higher education. I believe that this move has more advantages associated with it than some of the challenges it will impact on the education systems.

I support the move being undertaken by many institutions of higher education globally where most institutions are establishing branch campuses, offering programs which incorporate international students, establishing cross-border agreements among other inputs. For a better change of policies and practices by academic institutions in the aim of enhancing internationalization, the learning culture must also change (Buller, 2015). To start with, I believe that the learning methods in use need to change with time. The traditional educational methods which have been in use for several decades need to be changed to match the current global situation. Everything is changing especially with the social, economic and political integration being experienced daily. This calls for the need to integrate education systems to be updated with the current times. You can agree with me that more of international program exchange between students from different regions is needed. The world needs a circulation of knowledge and ideas thus leading to the need to internationalize higher education systems.

Changing the current leadership will facilitate a lot in the process of internationalization. If we need more change to be experienced in the education systems, then a change in the leadership is necessary. For this process to be successful, the leadership must believe that change is possible and work towards achieving it. They also need to appreciate the fact that the education systems needs to change with time and be optimistic about the future life of the systems.

I also support this move since internationalization has a correlation with globalization. Globalization involves the process of international integration which results from sharing of ideas, products, views, culture among others. Globalization, therefore, creates an opportunity to share ideas and other important aspects of life (Kasworm, 2010). For education integration to be achieved through sharing information and ideas from different backgrounds then internationalization of education must be promoted at all costs. This involves program exchanges, expanding universities in the global marketplaces as well as adopting strategies that enhance change in the education culture. The process of globalization, therefore, supports internationalization and since globalization has already taken place then it is high time to adopt internationalization as well.

Internationalization has the potential of improving higher education standards globally. Through this mechanism, you can agree with me that it can facilitate better delivery of academic programs being delivered across different regions due to the establishment of branch campuses in different countries globally. Exchange programs have the potential of improving the quality of education due to the interaction of learners from different environments. I agree with the strategy of promoting internationalization in higher education due to its potentiality in terms of education delivery and success.
