Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett begins with a famously brief description of its setting: “A country road. A tree. Evening.” Productions of the play have interpreted this minimalist description in numerous ways, however, often transforming the play into a more explicitly topical response to a contemporary event or situation.

01.) Rewrite the setting of Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett into a more detailed account of the scenery and properties of the play’s staging. Imagine yourself as the director of the play who is imagining a contemporary conception and staging of Waiting for Godot.

02.) Write a one-paragraph explanation of how this setting transforms the play.
