Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s “The Yellow Wallpaper.”

In a full paragraph or two, offer a brief deconstructive reading of either Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Purloined Letter” or Charlotte Perkins Gilman’s “The Yellow Wallpaper.” You will be looking for binaries at work in the piece, how one binary is assumed to be privileged (e.g., light over darkness), and how that privilege can be shown to be illusory. Deconstructive readings are long and involved, but you can simply sketch out what such a reading might look like.

How is your interpretation of the story shaped by a deconstructive reading of the text? In your journal entry, be sure to address the critical elements found in the Journal Guidelines and Rubric document by providing a brief overview of the literary theory, applying the theory to the literary text, and explaining how the story is shaped by the theoretical lens.
