Case Study: Mary Bell

For this week’s case study, please conduct outside research on juvenile murderer Mary Bell then respond to the following questions in a 1-page paper:

Mary Bell was considered a psychopath and a sociopath as a child but has apparently led a very normal life as an adult. Do you think it is possible for a psychopath to completely change their behavior?

What factors do you think were most important in motivating Mary to commit these crimes?

Do you think Mary should have received a harsher punishment for her crimes? (Is it fair that she is enjoying a relatively normal life considering her crimes?)

DNA Retention

The United Kingdom has begun a policy to collect and retain the DNA of juveniles involved in crime and recently came under fire for retaining the DNA for other juveniles who were never charged or convicted of an offense. Recently, the United States federal government has proposed a policy to collect DNA from anyone arrested by a federal law enforcement agent.

Create a position paper addressing the potential issues, both positive and negative, for the collection of DNA from citizens. Include examples to support your position.

Note: This Assignment will require outside research. Use at least two credible sources beyond the text material. Also discuss how you evaluated the credibility of the resources used.
